New Dr. Phil Theme Song: Not What the Doctor Ordered!

Have you heard the new Dr. Phil theme song? The new song has been kicking off the show since its season opener Monday. I think the song sounds completely wrong for Phil’s audience. It makes his demographic sound like 13 year old girls.

Who in there right mind would have chose this fluffy piece of pop-rock as their intro? Then it hit me: Phil’s son Jay is a producer on the show, wife Robin is always chillin in the audience; I bet the composer of the theme is related to Phil McGraw??

With a little digging, I found out that the song is written and performed by Dr. Phil’s son, Jordan! It sounds like a poor-man ‘Angels & Airwaves’ - very nasally vocals. The lyrics sound like a cheesy Christian Rock song, . . . which describes most Christian Rock.

Phil likes to keep everything in the family, but its about time he stops acting deaf, and starts getting real! The old intro was simple and effective; the new one makes me feel like I’m going to watch a Jonas brothers purity ring special? Oh well, I’m sure Jordan McGrraw is making a bundle every time it airs!

  1. Dark Alchemist Says:

I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that the new song doesn’t sound right for the show. The old song was better.

  2. Ashley Says:

LAME! Don’t you have anything better to do with your time..wow the song is awesome….

  3. Stanley Says:

    Ashley,

We apparently have different taste in music. The song itself isn’t horrible, I just think it looks weird as Phil’s theme song? I could totally see it playing before ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ or ‘Hannah Montana’, . . . IMO

  4. Wayne Says:

Hell, I haven’t even heard it and I’m getting ill. Hmm…maybe I should make a these song for my blog. When people first arrive, it will start up and be about how great the day is going to be, how much we’ll learn together. A snappy little jingle with a toe-tapping beat.

Nah, I’m not that pompous and arrogant. I’ll leave that to Dr. Phil. :)

Sorry, not a fan, but I do find it quite amusing that he has a theme song.

  5. Jana Says:

I love it! I think if you listen to the words it is very Dr. Phil.

  6. Lindsay Says:

    “which describes most Christian Rock”.
    no, that’s going too far.
You can state your opinion, but that’s too much.
I agree with you, the song does not fit the show at all.
    but think before you publish.

  7. Amanda Says:

I don’t dig it either, and when I heard it I thought “I wonder if Jay McGraw wrote that”.

  8. Colin Says:

    Hey Lindsay,
In defense of Stanley, I have to say you are in the wrong. This is America land of the (somewhat) Free. Regardless of how you feel about this issue, it is our First Amendment right that our freedom of speech is protected.
While I do not agree with everything people have to say, and sometimes wish people would keep it to themselves, to censor just to be politically correct is a baby step to mental slavery.
If you don’t like someones opinion, debate it, do not try to shut them up.
Especially when someone is merely speaking about their taste in music!

  9. Stanley Says:

Got quite a discussion going on here! There is one Christian Rock artist I love, thats John Davis(Superdrag)

His solo Christian Rock cd is so good, it would even make Bill Maher a believer!
    Listen to clips here: http://www.johndavismusic.com/

  10. Laughoutloud Says:

I completely agree with you, this song sucks. Nasally, bad voice, totally inappropriate for this type of audience.

  11. Leigh Ann Says:

Agree that the song sounds like cheezy chrisian rock. Also agree that most christian rock sounds cheezy. Also agree with 5th Amendment rights. Maybe Lindsay hasn’t hit 10th grade civics yet.

But Dr Phil is cool for doing that. He’s a good Dad.

  12. GottaHurl Says:

“Some say it’s a hard life, but it’s hard for us all”…really Jordan? What about your charmed life has been hard? He wouldn’t have a snowballs chance in hell of selling that drivel if it weren’t for his famous Dad….I knew immediately when I heard it that is must be his son and checked the credits. There’s no way Dr. Phil or any of his staff would pick that song from an independent musician, at least I hope not…

I googled new Dr. Phil song and came here just because every time I hear it it makes my skin crawl…it is SO BAD! Cheesy pop crap for sure….

I love the Dr. Phil show don’t get me wrong, but I miss the old song, it used to get my kids going…they’re disapppointed too…

  13. Sarah Elizabeth Says:

I couldn’t agree more!! I think it sounds so stupid and cheesy big time! I love the show but I HATE the new theme song. It is totally innapropriate for the demographic but I’m just repeating what’s already been said. I’m just so glad I’m not the only one who thinks it’s bad, bad, BAD! Arrogant is right. UGH! It’s too bad his son isn’t talented enough to write something that is actually good and is appropriate. But of course I suppose it wouldn’t matter as his voice sounds the same as so many other young male pop singers out there anyway and it stinks. JMO by the way :D

  14. Rhonda Says:

I knew it! At the beginning of the week when I heard it, I thought “that sounds cheesy - I bet his son did it.” Otherwise, I think Dr. Phil would have expected something better. It took me until today - Wednesday - to get up and google it and see that in fact his son HAD written it! Big surprise.

  15. Ashley Says:

i love the new song! its catchy!! i have it in my head now :)

  16. Kalimyst Says:

I’ve hated the song since the beginning of the season, but I just clued in today “Oh it must be written by Phil’s musician son”.

It’s not a bad song in itself if you like that style… but it feels totally wrong for the Dr Phil show.

  17. Sheri Reeves Says:

I like it. I would like to hear the whole song. It sounds inspirational, and I disagree that that is the wrong image for the Dr. Phil show. I find him very inspirational.

  18. Stanley Says:

I’m starting to like it more than first did. Dont you think it would fit better if it was sung by say, Josh Groban?
I think Jordan McGraws voice is a bit whinny?

  19. Deb Says:

Given Dr. Phil’s lack of shame in his display of nepotism, I guessed immedistely, he’s doing it again. Why doesn’t he trust his wife, and sons to find success on their own. He must be painfully aware they are not exceptional in any way, so therefore the need to use HIS celebrity to give them some. Luckily not everyone on TV brings their families to work. I cannot believe the network lets him do it and people are so naive to believe him that they have talent or ability. Can you imagine how much money these people are making?!

  20. John Lamp Says:

I am trying to find a site that has ” I got you” by Jordan McGraw on it but no luck can anyone give me a site that may have the full version on it for free?

  21. Bob Says:

Yeah, I agree they needed to change the theme song because 6 seasons of the same song is repetitive.
However, THIS kind of song doesn’t fit with the demographic audience who are women from their mid to late 20s- late 70s and early 80s. Of course, Phil cares about ratings rather than caring about his viewers when it comes hand to hand.
It’s one of many changes Phil had to make for more viewers which means more cash!

  22. Juli Says:

It is disappointing that people are so critical. If you listen to the words of the song, there is a good message there. I also like how Dr. Phil includes his family in his show and life. If more husbands and fathers were like Dr. Phil, the world would be a much better place. Why don’t you try criticizing jerks in the world, instead of good people!

  23. rylee Says:

I used to be a huge Dr. Phil fan, my admiration has been fading since Jay married the playboy chic, and changed his views on pornography etc, mind you I don’t mind it, just dont keeping changing your views to fit the situation. In addition, how many of you know the kind doc was married before???
Divorced due to infidelity on his part.
Oh well, the song sucks and would never have been used had it been written and performed by anyone other than the youngest son. I am so tired of the self promotion.

  24. rylee Says:

    Personal life

McGraw’s first marriage and subsequent divorce was not publicized until a 2002 Newsweek cover story.[9] The “secret first wife of Dr. Phil” was ex-cheerleader and homecoming queen Debbie Higgins McCall, who married McGraw in 1970. According to her, Phil was domineering and would not allow her to participate in the family business, a health spa. Instead, she was confined to domestic duties, which included lifting weights to improve her bustline.[56]

McGraw had multiple affairs with other women. McCall stated, “When I confronted him about his infidelities he didn’t deny these girls and told me that it had nothing to do with his feelings toward me, to grow up, that’s the way it was in the world.” The relationship ended when she left him in 1973.[56]

McGraw soon began dating a 20-year old college student, Robin Jo Jameson, whom he married almost three years later. The day of the wedding, she dropped out of school, quit her job and became a stay-at-home wife. Three years later, she became a stay-at-home mom when son Jay was born in 1979. Jay remained an only child until age 7, when Jordan was born in 1986.[57]

Jay McGraw has partially followed in his father’s footsteps, publishing books aimed at teenagers based on McGraw’s books and working for his father’s production company, Stage 29. Three months after Dr. Phil was scammed on his “Bad Influences” show by the infamous twin porn stars, Crystal and Jocelyn Potter,[58] Jay McGraw became engaged to Erica Dahm, one of the famous Playboy Playmate triplets.[59] Dr. Phil, who has been an outspoken critic of pornography, was Best Man at the wedding, which was held at his home in Beverly Hills.[60]

Jordan is currently a sophomore at the University of Southern California and is pursuing his interests in music.

  25. SonofPhil Says:

awwww, you are just jealous that you’re not related!

  26. Son-of-Phil Says:

    Do I look like daddy?

  27. DONNA Says:

WOW…THIS IS THE MOST OBVIOUS JEALOUSY I HAVE EVER HEARD.IF YOU DON’T LIKE IT JUST DON’T TUNE IN…IT’S THAT SIMPLE…IF SOMETHING MAKES YOU THAT MISERABLE STAY AWAY AND FOCUS ON SOMETING THAT CAN MAKE YOU HAPPY.

  28. Laurie Says:

i really dont have anything original to say - you guys covered it all. i will say that it is childish to critisize someone for supporting their family. The first time i heard the song, yes, i was surprised that it sounded like something a teenager would listen to. but regardless it is a good song and i think it does go along with the theme of the show. jordan isnt singing about himself, hes singing for the distraught guests on the show, who sometimes DO have a hard life. u should be more open to ideas, people.

  29. Tina Says:

Miss the old into song. I know change happens and that’s fine but this song does not match (.com) lol I also “get” supporting his son but surely there are many other ways in which he can support his son! We all do it in avenues available to us without taking our kids to our office with us! In effect, that is what he’s doing here. If the song was simply instrumental, perhaps it would work, however, just not working; IMHO. -And, comment is offered with respect, to Dr. Phil, his family, and fellow viewers.

  30. karen Says:

hahahaha I knew it. What a load of @#$@!
I can’t even watch the show anymore, it is so bad

  31. Megan Says:

how can you not like it. it is very dr. phil… hold on, be strong…. how is that not dr phil. and really, get mad over the theme song that lasts 5 sec. and why is it a bad thing he has his son’s song on there. that’s perfectly normal. it shows he supports his son. you would do the same if you were in his postition. get over it b*tchy lady.

  32. Lisa Says:

I wasn’t sure about the theme song at first but I have gotten used to it. I like it now. It’s called change, people!! I can’t even believe some people don’t watch him anymore just because of his theme music….ARE YOU KIDDING ME!! I think that it is great that Dr. Phil helps out his family members. If I had my own business I would let my spouse/kids work for me to help them out.

As far the comments regarding his ex-wife. True or not, everybody makes mistakes over the years on how we handle our lives. Sometimes we become better people because of that. I for one, think that Dr. Phil gives good advice and seems to be a possitive roll model. He helps out his family and is envolved with charity. With all that is going on in todays world, it sooths me to sit and watch him and listen to his matter-of-fact, common sense approach.

  33. Doris Says:

    I think it’s great, I love it!

  34. moto Says:

Anybody know where I can find the lyrics to his theme song?

  35. Jessica Says:

Thank god I’m not the only one! Like some of you, I heard the song and knew IMMEDIATELY that Jordan must have made it… Aside from
being cheesy, I don’t feel like the song reflects the show AT ALL. Always be strong? When has Dr. Phil ever told anyone to be strong?! All I hear him say is “get real” and “you’re dumber than a box of rocks”. Now THAT would be avoid theme song.

  36. Jessica Says:

    * a good theme song. Not avoid…

  37. moto Says:

so did anyone find the lyrics?

  38. Ashleigh Says:

    i personally like the song.
but i agree, def COMPLETELY wrong for the show.

  39. mary Says:

Personally I love the new song. I have been looking for a place to download it but can’t find it. I love the show too. I know it’s like anything else I am fond of, for example Celine Dion, either you love it or you hate it. Such is creative freedom. I don’t think it’s wrong for the show, by the way. As someone said above, if you don’t like it, don’t tune in. Why spend your energy putting stuff down when you could be spending it enjoying your life doing stuff you like and conversing with people you like about stuff you like.

  40. michelle Says:

I LOVE the new theme song on Dr. Phil!

  41. Michelle (From Atlanta) Says:

I Love It! & Gonna Add It To My Collection. Don’t Listen To The Others, Some People That Have No Taste Or Listen To The Words! It’s A Keeper!

  42. Retired in Florida Says:

I made a point of looking at the end of the show at the credits to see if this song was in fact more nepatism on Dr. Phil’s part. The song is so ridiculous I just knew it had to be Dr. Phil’s son making money off the show cuz the song surely doesn’t stand on its own.

Funny Dr. Phil never mentioned that his son is performing the song. I guess he figured we wouldnt figure it out!

I think his show has gone waaaaay down the tubes this season and even tho I Tivo it - I end up erasing it most days after I watch a minute or two.

My prediction - Dr. Phil won’t be around TV much longer.

  43. James Says:

I thought I was the only one who thought the new opening song sound like Christian Rock….

  44. Philbert Says:

The first time I heard that song I suspected it was his other youngling getting a free ride on Daddy’s wallet. Today I happened to be at the computer when the song came on and Google lead me here.

I didn’t care for the song and didn’t think it fit the show and I wondered why the producers chose that song. I recalled the good doc many times referring to his younger son as a “rocker” in contrast to Jay. I did not know until reading this thread that Jay was one of the producers. It makes a lot of sense now. As others have said, those kids could not stand on their own. I’m sure they’re fine people with average intelligence and talent, but they wouldn’t be anywhere without Phil giving them a free pass.

Yeah, I’m sure Jay would have had been a TV producer and had several books published without Daddy. I guess I hoped/assumed that the “rocker” son was really his own man because he did not seem to be in Daddy’s pocket, at least until now. I thought that perhaps he really had things going on his own and maybe even rode Jay’s ass about being a loser.

I’m also not blaming Phil or his kids. I’d do exactly the same thing. Parents should help their kids any way they can. I am jealous of average people who have been propelled into above average situations by family connections. My family did not give me that advantage. If they had, I would have taken the deal and never looked back.

Does anybody remember Ozzy’s daughter’s musical career? Uggh. Phil is not unique.

As long as I’m at it, the show does seem a little weak this season. What happened to the stories about serious sociopaths, child molesters in the family, racial violence and kids on shooting rampages? This year he’s taking on cyber-bullying and kids addicted to text messaging.

  45. bobbi sanders Says:

didn’t like it when I first heard it until this morning…I actually listened to the words…beautiful…live by them. made me think about the fact that after 27 years of hating my mother I’m glad that just a few weeks ago I forgave her and gave it to GOD. I know Phil and Robin are two very proud parents, I would be. Listen to the words and get inspired. Don’t Hate!

  46. Terri Says:

Five seconds ino that song the first time I heard it and I IMMEDIATELY knew that Dr. Phil must have lost a bet or something. I don’t have a problem with nepotism if the concerned party has the skills to warrant a leg up, but his son and his band need a lot of work. Dr. Phil has lost a lot of credibility in my eyes.

  47. john Says:

I love this song, I wish Jay produces a CD because I will definetly buy it.

  48. Ida Clair Says:

Sappy to the max. I too knew immediately it had to be written by his son. Otherwise he never would have approved it. Maybe he can knock out a better one for next season.

  49. Joe Says:

It’s a great song… yes i have problems, but as it says, we all have problems… it helps to realize that your not alone in this world… Many people feel that they are…. I am bi-polar, and I have come aloooooong way from who I was… there was nothing easy about it… I still have along way to go, but i came looking for the song to download it…. It gives me a comforting feeling… Thank Jordan for writing it …. I appreciate it…. as many others do… JOE

  50. Jackie Says:

    I love it

What is the name of it?

  51. Tracie Says:

I love this song. When it comes out in stores I will be first in line. The song I got you fits me well. Thanks Jordan it is great. Get it to the shelves.

  52. Tracie Says:

The name of the song is I Got You

  53. Gail Says:

Seems to me Dr. Phil has spent a FORTUNE promoting the wealth of his family. Does Robin REALLY have so much to say of great interest that she needed to write a book? Incidentally, it was on the $4.98 remainder table in about a month. There have been several failed tv shows by Jay (sponsored by Daddy), and now the theme song from Jordan that really would be more appropriate for teenage girls. I guess if you have a fortune, you might as well use it to make the wife and kidlettes wealthy too. What else are they skilled at doing beside tennis?

  54. concerned Says:

I thought Dr. Phil preached that it is important to make your own way in this tough world……way to go jay and jordan looks like daddy doesn’t follow what he preaches….

  55. aaron Says:

listen here Christian rock is the best rock just look at the top of the charts. christians are taking over the rock scene leave it alone. the song to me sounded cheesy but then I listened to the words and decided it fit. I thought it might have been hawk nelson ( a christian punk band)and the words are very Dr. Phil. Ohh and by the way Dr. Phil is using another christian rock band called the Afters as well so there you have it.

  56. Roberta Says:

I mute the tv when the song plays. I don’t like it at all. It’s a whiny song, and reminds me of something from the 90’s.

I didn’t know it was his son until this week. Ick!

  57. wendy doughty Says:

I LIKE THE SONG.IF YOU HAD A WEALTHY PARENT THEY WOULD HELP YOU TO.I HAVE HAD A HARD LIFE I WAS IN A HOUSE FIRE WHEN I WAS 4 .I AM NOW 34.I LOST MY FINGERS AND WAS BURNED BAD.I HAVE 2 KIDS AND I AM MARRIED I DRIVE A CAR AND I WORK,BY THE WAY I TYPED THIS REPLY MYSELF.LIKE THE SONG

  58. DeeDee Says:

Glad I’m not the only one who hates this song. First time I heard it, I thought “gotta be some Christian artist”. I have to mute the tv. It’s probably one of the worst opening songs I’ve heard.

  59. mel Says:

I think that it is a good song to have as a theme song. I think it helps attract audiences of different ages. I think it also shows support for his son. as to the message sveral posts above about Dr. Phil’s personal life. let the person who has never made a mistake in his/her life be the first one to cast the stone.
PS its time to update theme songs its not 1990 anymore its 2008.
If you dont like it turn you channel to something you do and keep your snide marks to yourself.

  60. mel Says:

Gotta be some christian song. grow up jerk.

  61. Shannon Says:

I agree- it’s a HORRIBLE song. I had a hunch that it was by his by his lame christian “rocker” son. It is so sappy and retarded and makes me nauseous every time I hear it. That kid has NO TALENT. I can’t stand his other no-talent son either. Dr. Phil has a good show (interesting topics), and actually some good advice a lot of the time, but I can’t stand it when he gets all preachy and Christian. Leave your superstitious beliefs and plastic-faced wife at home, please! And let your sons try to make it on their own without daddy’s help!

  62. LBLady Says:

Totally Agree!!! I just commented on the theme song to my 13 yr old daughter and we both agreed that the song is NOT a good fit for the show. Then I said, “Hey, it’s probably his son singing.” The song makes me want to turn before the show can actually air.

  63. LBLady Says:

I’d like to add that my 3 yr old used to say on que, “It’s time to get excited about your life!” Aaahh, those were the days.

  64. Linda Olivares Says:

I have been looking for this song//I love it,,and I was already thinking it might be Jordan since I knew he had a band,,I am so glad that I finally found the music,,Keep the songs coming Jordan, This is one of my favorite songs

  65. Kathe Says:

I don’t think the song is a good fit- it’s not my style of music, but it would be fine, as somebody said, on a Disney or Nick show for the Jonas Brothers set. As far as Robin and the kids standing on their own, eh…it’s hard for me to get upset about nepotism on daytime TV when we just got out of 8 years under a president who would have been a gas jockey if it weren’t for his family’s money and influence. I would prefer that everyone start from scratch when it comes to big things in life, but it’s never been that way yet.

  66. Kris Says:

I have to agree. This song is terrible and in no way a good fit for the show. It has no catchy hook, and the typical over-auto tuned vocoder effect found on way to many, pop, rock and R&B tracks today. This song is in no way memorable and I seriously give it a season before there is enough feedback flowing into the show making them realize that it was a terrible choice for an opening theme. In the voice of Dr. Phil… “What the hell we’re you thinkin?” Supporting your son is a good thing but this song is crap.

  67. Peter Says:

the new theme song awesome. Its better then the first one.

  68. Diann Says:

I think the song is awesome, no matter what other people think or say. I just wish I could find it and buy it. And I think it is the PERFECT song for the show. So any of you who don’t like it….boo hoo, then don’t listen to it and go tell somebody that cares, because we don’t. I also agree it was better than the first one.

  69. bob Says:

WOW some people are jerks. It is a good song, I think.

  70. kimmi Says:

I agree with Bob, right above me…it IS a good song, i just think that some people don’t have anything better to do than bash Dr. Phil and his family. SHAME on all of you! And like Diann, i would also buy it if i could find it. And it IS a better song than the first one! You nay-sayers need to get a REAL life!

  71. Islandgirl Says:

Ok so i’m not quite sure what all the controversy is about, so what if he’s Dr. Phil’s son, it’s a good song and maybe you don’t think it’s right for the show but obviously someone did and who are all of you to judge the show just by their choice of theme song? I give Dr. Phil a lot of credit for keeping the show in the family and trying to help his kids start a life for themselves in the career fields of their choice. Accepting his kids for who they are and supporting their dreams. Even if he didn’t think the song was perfect for his so called “demographic” he’s being a supportive father. And what exactly is his “demographic” anyways, I’m a 21 year old woman from British Columbia Canada and I watch his show whenever I get the chance. I know people who are younger than I am who enjoy his show so maybe the song DOES suite his demographic just fine. Even my mom enjoys the song so stop judging the bloody show by the song they decided to play during the opening credits and just get over it already. It’s a catchy song and Dr. Phil’s being a good dad by supporting his rather talented son.

  72. kimmi Says:

I am applauding Islandgirl and totally agree with her..i am 50 years old and my kids like the song, too, so i truly don’t see what the big deal is–obviously, his son’s music appeals to more than just one generation! :)
And if i’m not mistaken, he DID mention the fact that his son did the opening song in one of his shows a week or two ago…

  73. Robyn Says:

Fluffy Christian rock, huh? Come to think of it, that’s probably why I like it so much! The song is great. Don’t you have anything better to do than go around knocking other people’s stuff?

  74. sjerseyman Says:

THE SONG IS CRAP, THE SHOW IS NOW CRAP CRAP, CRAP, CRAP!!!

  75. Cindy Says:

I love the Dr. Phil show, but hate the new theme song. It is too sappy.

  76. Deb Says:

It’s the fact that a family with no exceptional talent except having a famous dad/husband, making money off the general public’s naivete ,that’s so annoying. 1st time I heard the song,it was obvious what McGraw was doing. He’s been doing it since the show started… promoting his family while telling his audience it’s important for people to find their OWN success and not ride on others’ coattails. Doesn’t anybody else see the hypocisy? ‘ Use to love the guy until he went Hollywood. His show is not a private business where he gets to hire his wife and kids, folks. He’s on TV -you’re paying for his nepotism. There are truly talented people out there who DESERVE being promoted. Get Real

  77. Meredith Says:

    Seriously, get a life.

  78. Lauren Says:

Get over yourself. Not everyone is going to like whatever song is put up. Honestly…And isn’t a father supposed to be that proud of his own son’s work? Maybe his son wanted to write it for the show because he was proud of the work his dad did. Anyway, who are you to be the judge of something you know absolutely nothing about?

  79. Bella Says:

I like the song, But everyone has different opinions

  80. Deb Says:

Well I do know something about music and the theme song is mediocre at best. It’s about NEPOTISM! If you don’t mind getting duped, have at it…..

  81. susan Says:

this song is really bad and anyone with half a brain knows right away that it had to be written by his son…..it is so wrong for the show.
jordan probably goes into this website everyday to write positive posts….who else would post that they like the song?

  82. Anthony Says:

I totally agree, the song is all emo-ey. I love the show though.

  83. Anthony Says:

By the way, that is hilarious Susan! ahaha!

  84. cynthia Says:

I happen to not care for rap music but I don’t go around calling their music “crap”. Christian rock is not cheesy! At least Christian song writers know the difference between “there” and “their” and use them correctly. Maybe you should be more concerned with your own editing than to put down other’s likes and dislikes. For example… you wrote… Who in there right mind would have chose.

Well, people, if Dr. Phil and/or his family are so devoid of talent WHY are they ALL making money doing what they do? It’s the consumer that is keeping these folks in business and none of them appear to be going away anytime soon. I enjoyed Robin’s book. I found it unpretentious and…well, heartwarming. I’ve read a couple of Dr. Phil’s first books and found them good reading as well. Jay McGraw seems to be a nice young man, however, I don’t know enough about him or his work to give an opinion on whether he has talent. As for the kid’s song, it sounds like bunches of others from people in the same age group..but that is the nature of the beast in songs from late teens-twenty somethings for as long back as I can remember. Nothing new there. The one point I do feel strongly about is that the Dr. Phil Show has taken a DEEP nosedive this season. I find him goading guests to obtain shocking answers purely for sensationalistic reasons. It’s as if he’s a reporter for the National Enquirer these days instead of someone who cares about his guests. Nothing seems to get resolved either…there’s verbal sparring back and forth for shock value and then at the end of the day,he offers “help” in the guests’ home towns and that is that. I know ratings have always been a number one concern for any show but good grief…pretty soon he’s going to be having fist fights on stage ala Jerry Springer!!! At any rate, this season has done me in! I’m no longer a viewer of a show I once enjoyed very much.

umm actually i think the song is actually a really really good song yeah it might not be a song for dr.phil but its a good song and its his son so who really cares. and his son doesnt make money off of it playing cuz his son isnt even signed. so most of you are WRONG. it most deffinatly doesnt sound like a song that would play be4 hannah montana or whatever else you said it doesnt sound like a them song at all but it IS a GOOD song.

  87. Heath Says:

I think the song is a great song, and completely right for the show. All you have to do is listen to the words. Also whose to say it isn’t right for the audience? What are you referring its simply for all older people, and not the young? I am only 20 years old myself, and I love the show. Also the quote that in where you said “Which describes most christian rock” is completely wrong. Come on you can easily write what you want, but don’t insult a form of music that is backed by someone bigger and more powerful than we are. Christian Rock is easily the best form of music, whether it be screamo, alternative, powerpop who cares as long as it is praising god. The writer of this will be sorry for his or her actions claiming that christian rock is cheesy!

  88. MaryJ Says:

This is hilarious! While I have to admit the song is kinda catchy, kinda Simple Plan-ish, it’s totally not right for the show…(I am afterall I fan of that “cheezy” Christian rock :-p)The funniest part is when I commented on how I kinda like the song, my bf commented that it must be by Dr. Phil’s son since he’s such a money grubber nowadays…

  89. Jessica Says:

I hate this song. If I close my eyes, I can imagine that I am watching some Disney channel show. This song is definitely not right for a show with a primarily adult audience. In addition, this show is of a serious nature, and the song is way too lighthearted, trivial, and juvenile. Can’t his son write something a little darker or solely instrumental?

  90. Kimber Says:

Well stated, Terri! My sentiments as well.

“Five seconds ino that song the first time I heard it and I IMMEDIATELY knew that Dr. Phil must have lost a bet or something. I don’t have a problem with nepotism if the concerned party has the skills to warrant a leg up, but his son and his band need a lot of work. Dr. Phil has lost a lot of credibility in my eyes.”

  91. No_Longer_A_Fan Says:

It’s not about the nepotism; it’s not about the song. For me it’s about the fact that the show has lost its mission and the host has lost his vision. The Dr. Phil Show used to be about other people…about its guests and the audience. Now it’s about the host and his family. This is epitomized by the difference between the current introduction to the show and the original one, which was chock full of pictures of other people (remember that redheaded little girl with the long hair?). Now it’s all about the McGraws. Has he no shame? er, no. But that’s his choice. Worse is Dr. Phil’s lack of enthusiasm. He seems bored by it all unless the show includes celebrities. He lets his guests talk over one another and doesn’t intervene. He lets so many questions just go unanswered now. In fact it seems the majority of his time is spent directing us into and out of those MANY commercial breaks. And what’s up with the recorded interviews? The guest is sitting right next to him, yet even s/he has to watch a recording! Soon he won’t even need to be on stage. :\ Until I found this blog, I thought it was just me. Glad to know others can see that the emperor has no clothes. (I wonder what Oprah, the Queen of Class and Sincerity, thinks?)

  92. LYRICS!?!? Says:

Has anyone found the lyrics yet?? The best I can do is

Some say it’s a hard life but it’s hard for us all
I’ll always hold on, I’ll always be strong
reach out for the sake of those before?
in the moment of darkness I need a hand to pull me through?
Cause I know I know I know dklasjfljkafsd?

Could someone tell me if I’m right about what I do have and fill in the blank spots?

  93. Stanley Says:

Here’s the lyrics, as I hear them :

Some say it’s a hard life but it’s hard for us all
I’ll always hold on, I’ll always be strong
reach out for a safe place to fall?
Livin in a moment of darkness I need a hand to pull me through?
    Cause I know I know I will survive . . .

  94. Jen Says:

I like the song. I thought it was Hawk Nelson. I always did like positive songs though.

  95. Shel Says:

I agree with most of you …

… when I first heard the song I thought ‘how amateur and teenager-like’ and then thought it’s gotta be his son Jordan who wrote and is singing this, and sure enough it is. It sounds really dumb and does not fit at all. I think Dr Phil is on the wrong track with all this - let’s build up the family thing - he’s been doing. It appears that he’s more into making his family more wealthy than anything else … whenever this becomes the goal, along comes the downhill slide right along with it.

… just how it works in life …

  96. Shel Says:

    oh and another thing

….. to all of you so-called Christians who are hypocritically bashing other people for stating their opinions, if Dr. Phil is so christian he should know that the greed of money is the root of all evil.

A quote from Oprah during an interview about Dr. Phil’s show with him present.
” I thought he would do a few seasons and take the money are run ”

… I think she knows she created a monster …

  97. shelbee Says:

i think that the song is fantastic!! he keeps everything in the family for a reason. he doesn’t want to make his show just about him…his whole family takes part in the show. the song fits because the people who comes on his show obviously have problems but it shows that dr. phil isnt perfect. he went through stuff too. and if my son composed a great sounding song i would put it as the intro on my show too. if he is proud of his son’s song i am not surprised that dr. phil would put i ton his show. its sounds great and all u people have family problems if u don’t think that is a good song and it was a mistake to put it on there because it wasn’t and whoever thinks that dr. phil is in it for money your not why would he sit there and listen and fix and spend his own money on strangers and sit and wrote a billion books that have probably and i know for a fact change people’s lives….but whatever you people just crazy you have no hearts. </3

  98. Slow Americans Says:

What fun it is to see how desperately fanatic people become over mindless entertainment. Don’t be fooled, Dr. Phil is not there to help America. He’s there to help himself. Maybe if you morons stopped believing everything the little flashing-blinking box in your living room tells you America would become the great country it once was.

And before you write back with some incensed reply telling me how wonderful Dr. Phil has been for families around the globe, stop and think for a moment– aren’t you even a bit wary about taking what Dr. Phil preaches at face value? After all, before Oprah made him famous he did make his living manipulating the justice system. Really, hasn’t it ever occurred to you that maybe you are being manipulated too? No? Go ahead and try to disagree with something he says in a room full of middle class moms and see where it gets you.

Dr. Phil is football for women.

  99. Slow Americans Says:

Oh and by the way, the song DOES suck.

  100. Shel Says:

*s* I love you … Slow America —tell it like it is … I SURE LOVE STRONG WOMYN

oops on the mistake I made in quoting Oprah, the quote should have read as *
” I thought he would do a few seasons and take the money and run ”

  101. Kim Says:

The song is fine - Jay is obviously talented - but it just isn’t great for Dr Phil.

  102. Shel Says:

    it isn’t Jay’s song, it’s Jordans …. *s*

  103. Brandon Says:

I find it amazing how many people are so defensive of the song, as if they wrote it themselves. I’m all about entitlement to your own opinion, but the “jealousy” comments just because someone doesn’t share your tastes/opinions is ridiculous. If you like it, fine, but get over yourselves with the idea that that’s the only opinion available.

Me personally, think it would probably make a great single, but it is completely out of place on this show, esp. considering that the last six years used that electric guitar-heavy arrangement, which rocked. I listened to the closing of spinoff show “The Doctors”, and that show’s theme sounded a lot like the old “Dr. Phil” theme song. Maybe Phil wanted to change it to avoid any similarities.

  104. Bev Says:

The song is awful….just AWFUL! Gotta love that mute button.
