With November sweeps just around the corner, Dr Phil kicked off a new continuing series on his show called ‘Dr Phil’s Get Real Retreat’. By the looks of it, the real Phil is an angry, psycho, doctor; but some of you may have already picked up on that?
But, seriously, in the retreat, Phil switches to a Jekyll and Hyde character! He was in his guests face - yelling at them, arguing with them, and made some of the misguided and sick people cry!
Phil always seems to get angrier and desperate during a ratings period? I just hope wife Robin doesn’t see the Dr Hyde version of Phil too often!

oh my god, are you for real. Treating people like victims does not heal them. Dr. Phil knows exactly what he is doing and if you talk to any of those people in the retreats he runs, they all ‘get’ why he did those things. It makes them face thier darkside and quit pussyfooting around. By the way crying is cleansing.
I am sure it has nothing to do with ratings boosts. Nothing at all…
Gee, ya think Dr Phil is all about ratings????
Not sure about all of the participants in the “get real retreat” but I know for a fact that one of them is a crazy “stalker” that is lying through her teeth! She preys on married men, got fired from work for theft, and we’re guessing that the only reason she went on this show was to break up this guy’s marriage – not gonna happen. We all had a good laugh at work!
shame on dr phil, exploiting vulnerable people on his show.
The Get Real Retreat is based on a training he developed 25 years ago to get people moving quickly in their lives. Powerful, intensive stuff. Perfect for ratings, but frankly, perfect to help a lot of people heal.
He doesn’t have anything to do with the organization he founded now that he’s famous, but they’re still doing the training in Dallas. gopathways.org
It was intimidating to be on the show-but I think it was to snap us out of our normal coping methods for faster progress. You can check out my blog and website for pictures of the show.

@Melissa,
Hey there, I remember you on the show. I guess Phil’s tough love works? I checked out your site and noticed the the retreat was a good thing for you.
Stay positive!
@ Melissa – There were 4 parts shown of the Get Real Retreat. Was it completed/was this a 4 part series?
Somehow, in watching it, I had gotten the impression that there was more to follow.
The one he did on Oprah back in 2002/2003 was complete, but I felt this one left us (me anyway) hanging for lack of another word.
Was there more to be shown?
